Chances are if you're considering a new floor, durability is at the top of mind. This is for good reason; a durable floor will provide peace of mind and more functionality in your home. At Hewn, we pride ourselves in creating flooring that meets the challenges of daily life, and can stand up to pets, kids, heavy foot traffic, and accidents.
When it comes to flooring durability, there's 4 main aspects that are especially important to consider. These aspects are: scratch resistance, stain resistance, dent resistance, and overall water resistance.
Stoneform scratch resistance
We created Stoneform with a thick ceramic bead infused wear layer. This wear layer makes Stoneform very scratch resistant. Pet nails, high heels, and dropped utensils aren't a problem when your floor is this durable. Unlike traditional LVP, tile, laminate, or hardwood flooring, Stoneform's advanced scratch resistance makes it an excellent choice for active households.
On top of a strong wear layer, Stoneform won't show any scratches that do happen as much as other flooring. This is because our design curated print film is protected by the wear layer. Scratches aren't very noticeable when they can't penetrate the design film.
No floor is completely scratch proof, though Stoneform is fairly close. On the off chance that scratches do occur, they can be easily fixed using a scratch repair kit. Additionally, using felt protectors on chair legs and not dragging heavy furniture across the floor will go a long way in protecting your floor from scratches.
Stoneform stain resistance
Similar to scratch resistance, Stoneform is very stain resistant because of its wear layer. This 20-30 Mils wear layer (depending on the collection) keeps stains from red 40, wine, or markers (to name a few) at bay. Our durable flooring resists the everyday spills that would damage lesser materials.
Even nail polish doesn't stand a chance against Stoneform. Instead of seeping into the design curated film that holds the color of your floor, stains sit on the surface and can usually be removed using a magic eraser and a bit of elbow grease.
Stoneform dent resistance
Dropping pans or water tumblers won't harm your floor. Stoneform's rigid core as an SPC floor is made primarily of limestone which makes it denser than LVP or hardwood. This means it's resistant to dents. The durability of our rigid core construction sets it apart from standard LVP options on the market.
It's important to mention that no floor is completely dent-proof, so dropping heavy items may still cause dents. However, a Hewn floor is resilient against most day to day accidents.
Stoneform water resistance and waterproofing
Hewn floors are made to be 100% waterproof. The unique locking mechanism prevents liquid from seeping through floor seams and causing mold or mildew in the subfloor. Additionally, the wear layer acts as a barrier that keeps liquids on top of the floor instead of sinking in and causing warping or bubbling. This water resistance makes Stoneform an ideal durable flooring choice for wet spaces like kitchens and bathrooms.
Try it for yourself
Your home has unique needs, and you should install a floor that will meet them. Instead of just taking our word for it, we encourage you to order a sample and try it out in your own home. Have pets walk on it, purposefully drop or spill things, etc. Try your own durability tests, and watch a few on our social media pages.
