Our Step by Step Flooring Checklist: From Sample to Install

The journey to new flooring can seem overwhelming, especially if you're doing it yourself. That's why we've come up with this detailed, step-by-step checklist to help simplify the process. We'll cover everything from the minute your sample is delivered to the installation process. Ready to get started?

1. Finding the right color

  1. Test your samples: Use our guide to the different tests you should perform on your samples to make sure it's the perfect color, plank size, and durability level for your space.
  2. Meet with our in-house designer: If you haven't met with Caitlin yet, you're missing out. As a professional interior designer with years of experience with Hewn floor (down to having Stoneform in her own home), Caitlin will help guide you to the perfect color and interior design style to complete your vision.
  3. Use our View In Your Room tool: Another great tool to help visualize your space in Stoneform, simply take a picture of your space and upload it to our tool found on our website. Then, toggle easily between Stoneform colors to give you a better idea of a color in your space.
  4. Use our color map: Along with all our other design resources, we have a comprehensive color map that shows the overall warmth and tone of each of our unique flooring colors.

2. Preparing your order

  1. Find your space's square footage. Once you've found your desired floor color, use our square footage tool available on each product page to easily calculate how many boxes of flooring it will take to complete your space. Confused how to start? Watch this video to learn how to find square footage.
  2. Find the right trim pieces: If you haven't checked out our trim pieces, you need to. We have trim pieces to help your flooring flow through every space. Whether it's stair treads, transition pieces, or quarter-rounds, we have them available in every Stoneform color. Make sure to include the right trim pieces in your order.
  3. Check your subfloor requirements: Depending on your subfloor, you may need to purchase a vapor barrier, or demo your existing flooring. Call our office if you have questions regarding your subfloor.
  4. Order your flooring. Once you've calculated the number of boxes needed, picked out trim pieces, and figured out a date for delivery, order your flooring directly off our site.
  5. Coordinate your delivery: After ordering your floor, you will be contacted by a member of our team to coordinate when and where you would like your flooring delivered.

3. Getting ready for install

  1. Find a professional installer: If you're looking for someone to install your flooring for you, we've made that search a lot easier. We've partnered with Thumbtack to put you in contact with expert installers in your area. Simply put in your zipcode, and receive quotes from installers in your area.
  2. Coordinate install with your installer: find a day that works for you and get your installation scheduled.

OR

  1. Aquire tools needed for DIY install: If you're going to install your flooring yourself, make sure you have all the right tools ahead of time. Luckily, we've included this list right here:
  2. Download our installation guide: This guide will walk you through the timeline, steps, and instructions for installing your floor. Following it carefully is imperative to the health and longevity of your floor. Reading not your thing? Not to worry: we have a collection of videos to help walk you through the install process.

4. Starting installation

  1. Acclimate your Stoneform: Your flooring needs to sit for 48 hours prior to installation at a climate between 65-80 degrees F. Your floor needs to stay in this temperature range indefinitely.
  2. Prepare your space: Remove baseboards or quarter-rounds and undercut doorway moldings to match the flooring thickness.
  3. Verify that your subfloor meets requirements as far as moisture and levelness.
  4. Dry lay your floor: Before clicking planks together, finalize your color layout and spot any pattern mistakes.
  5. Start installing! Use our installation guide and follow all instructions for a smooth installation.

We hope this itemized checklist helps to ease your worry as you start your flooring journey. As always, reach out to us if you have specific questions or concerns. We're happy to help!
