Hewn floor transition piece for floor transitioning under doorway

Hewn Flooring Transition Pieces, Explained

One of the key details that often goes unnoticed with your floor is the transition pieces. But without them, your floor will look unfinished. Trims and transitions play an important role elevating your space by allowing your flooring to flow seamlessly from one room to the next. We've created this short tutorial to walk you through all of our transition pieces and their purposes.

There are 5 different transition pieces offered by Hewn and are available in all of the Stoneform color options.

The 5 transition types are Reducer, End Cap, T-Molding, Quarter Round, and Stair Nose Trim piece which is available in the square nose profile.

Let’s first talk about the Reducer floor trim transition piece. These are ideal for transitions to or from lesser thickness than the Stoneform product being used.

Next is the End-cap transition piece. Now, these are ideal for transitioning from plank flooring to carpet or can be used against exterior door thresholds including sliding glass doors.

Next, we have the T-mold transition piece. This is ideal for transitions of equal thickness to the stone form product. The most common example of this is maybe transitioning from one room to another and is typically used under a doorway to hide the gap between the two different floorings of similar size.

Next is the Quarter-round perimeter trim. This is ideal for use transitioning to vertical surfaces like cabinetry or walls without baseboards being removed. In the scenario that you are doing your flooring project and you do not want to remove your flooring baseboards you can simply install the flooring and cover that gap with the quarter round.

And finally, the Stair-nose trim piece. This is ideal for areas where Stoneform transitions to your stairs. Hewn’s stair nose is flush which lends itself to a natural stair look. It can be used on a top stair or an entire set of stairs. The installation is the same regardless of which transition you’re using.

Hewn transitions do not require any special metal track and are easily installed using a construction grade adhesive of your choice. Simply apply some dabs of the adhesive and press your transition in place. Using tape to secure your transitions in place while the adhesive has a chance to cure is helpful.

Hopefully, this short tutorial will help you to better understand exactly what transitions you need in your upcoming project.
